Candlebay Inn

Candlebay Inn, Freeport, Maine
There’s nothing quite like summer in Maine! The hustle and bustle around town has started and we’ve been happily welcoming new and returning guests to the inn. As summer gets into full swing, we are excited to continue to be one of Freeport’s pet-friendly accommodations. Maine’s summers are short, so be sure to get your reservations made today if you’re thinking about visiting!

Fourth of July is almost upon us. Need to make last minute plans? See below for our special Fourth of July promotion. Did you know we offer special packages monthly? We suggest taking a look at the packages page on our website – packages change frequently.

Fireworks, bands, great food and special packages are what great summers are made of. We’re ready to see you here in Freeport, give us a call to book your room today!

Warmest wishes,

A Specialty of the House

Fourth of July Red Velvet Pancakes & Breakfast Sausage

Red velvet pancakes and sausage

4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
2 Tbsp confectioners’ sugar
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup melted and cooled unsalted butter, plus more for the griddle
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
Toasted, chopped pecans, for serving (Optional)

Whisk the cream cheese, sour cream, milk and confectioners’ sugar until smooth in a bowl. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and ½ teaspoon salt into a large bowl. Beat the eggs and granulated sugar in a medium bowl until pale yellow; beat in the buttermilk, melted butter, food coloring, vanilla and vinegar. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and fold just until incorporated.

Heat a griddle or large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Lightly coat the hot skillet with melted butter. Pour ¼ cupful of batter on the hot skillet, spaced evenly apart; use a spatula to spread out slightly if needed. Cook until bubbles begin to pop on the surface, about 3 minutes. Carefully flip and cook until the bottoms are set and the pancakes are cooked through, 1 to 2 minutes longer. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Drizzle the cream cheese and syrup on top of the pancakes and sprinkle with pecans.
